We are independent craft brewery established in 2015. Founded by Valenta family from Krnov and Kuřec family (brewer Michal Kuřec) from nearby town of Albrechtice. Valenta family owned a building of closed Karnola factory in Krnov and master brewer Michal Kuřec studied brewing at university and gained experience in Lobkowicz breweries as a technologist. First ideas about founding brand new brewery emerged in 2014 and after first batches of Nachmelená opice beer were brewed in autumn of 2015.
Our aim is to bring joy to our customers through our beer and brand. We brew bottom-fermented beers, but we mainly focus on top-fermented beers. We love to explore new and unique beer styles. We do this with love and respect to our craft.
Brewery is located in former location of textile plant Karnola in downtown Krnov, Textilní street.
We continue the post-flood repairs and significantly expand our technology. We have a new brewhouse, malt silo and bottling lines. In autumn we brew 10 unique specials to mark our 10-year anniversary and we celebrate in December.
In summer we take part in the Paris Olympics through a presentation at the Czech Olympic House. In September a devastating flood hits the brewery. It slows us down for a long time, yet we still cross the 10,000 hl mark for the year.
We start selling in Kaufland for the first time. In spring we build a large refrigerated beer box. At the Spring Brewers' Cup we win an unparalleled 3 gold medals across 15 categories. We make our debut at Rock For People, the biggest music festival in the Czech Republic.
We brew our first non-alcoholic beer NEALKO IPA FREE. Canning is now regular, done externally by our colleagues at PRAGERS in Krnov. We win a number of awards at tasting competitions in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Opice appears in cans for the first time. In May we brew a cooperation batch with Budějovický Budvar right in their brewhouse. It is a PALE ALE — the first top-fermented beer in Budvar's history.
Over the winter we install bigger CK tanks and an automatic kegging line. In spring the COVID pandemic hits us all and forces us to launch our own e-shop. In summer we continue the renovation of the premises, including opening our own brewery shop.
We get a new glass-bottle line and stop selling beer in PET. We brew new beers including our first sour in collaboration with the Zobák brewery. In autumn we acquire the neighbouring premises of the Karnola textile factory.
We win the Golden Bohemia award judged by Czech and international juries. We are at the edge of our capacity going into the season, so in spring we install additional CK tanks and in April a new brewhouse with a 20 hl batch — twice the original 10 hl.
Three beers settle into our permanent line-up: LEŽÁK 11, SUN APA 12 and IPA 14. Alongside them we brew several specials, the most popular being the Valentine's IPA Ich Liebe Dich.
Right in our first season we cannot keep up — we add fermentation tanks, get our first delivery van and start touring beer festivals with our own stand. At the end of August we host the Konec léta s Opicí beer festival in the centre of Krnov for the first time.
The dream of an own brewery and own business takes shape for Michal Kuřec and Jirka with the Valenta family. From summer we start building, in November we brew the first batches and in December we open the new Nachmelená Opice brewery in Krnov.
